Summer is right around the corner.  But as we complete our summer outline, we still have new and continuing classes to offer you this month. Pilates, Yoga and Baby Sign Language are among them.  Be sure to visit our website  www.intoyoga.ca.

When I ask students in class what part of their body ails them most, the number one answer is "MY BACK."  So in this month's newsletter we'll offer some asana to help your aching back.

Did you know that a combination of stress and sleeplessness may lead to an acceleration of aging and a weakened immune system?  Adaptogens can help.

Beliefs like 'without struggle, success is beyond our reach' can really limit our potential.  Learn ways to counter 5 limiting beliefs that are very common for many of us.

Is Stress Aging You?

Stress
just reading the word can hit a nerve that gets your heart pumping. April is Stress Awareness Month and weve decided its time to place the spotlight on the unhealthy nature of stress when its not controlled.

Its no secret that stress can put your health at risk, but now researchers from University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), have found that the additional presence of poor sleep is linked to compounded problems long term.

They concluded that the combination of stress and sleeplessness can lead to accelerated aging and a weakened immune system, especially among those who are obese (1). This is the result of shortened telomeres, which are the protective caps at the end of chromosomes that keep DNA healthy and safe from damage. Telomeres begin to shorten as you age, or prematurely depending on your lifestyle.

Baby Massage

Choose a moment in which you and your child are relaxed and calm. A half hour after the baby has eaten or after a bath time is recommended. Be sure that the room temperature is warm (78 degrees Fahrenheit or 25 degrees Celsius). Undress the baby completely and if the weather is cold or humid cover the areas of the baby's body that are not being massaged. Put the baby on a soft surface so your baby will feel comfortable and secure. Keep some little pillows handy. It is a good idea to use cream or mineral oil on your hands and rub them together so they will be soft and warm. Cauliflower Pizza??
Original Recipe


Pizza Base
florets from 1 cauliflower
3/4 cup almond flour
1 tablespoon dried oregano
sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 organic eggs, beaten

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200C / 400F and line a baking tray with baking paper. 
  2. Coarsely chop the cauliflower, place in food processor and blend until it is a fine rice-like texture and place in a mixing bowl. Add the almond meal, oregano and seasoning and mix with your hands. Make a well in the centre and add the eggs. Use your hands to pull the dry ingredients towards the middle until everything is combined and you can shape it into a ball.
  3. Transfer to the baking paper and form into a pizza base by flattening the dough with your hands. Depending on preference, you could make 2 small bases or one large. We find the small bases work better and cook more evenly. 
  4. Pre-bake for 25 minutes or until golden. Meanwhile, prepare the super green basil pesto. Remove the crust from the oven. Cover it with pesto sauce, halved tomatoes & parmesan cheese and put it back in the oven for 5-10 more minutes. Take it out the oven and top with fresh basil, arugula & a squeeze of lemon juice. 

SUPER GREEN PESTO 
1 cup activated nuts of your choice
1 bunch of basil 
Juice of 1 lemon
1 clove of garlic, crushed
pinch of sea salt
1/4 cup good quality olive oil
1 tablespoon Food Matters Superfood Greens 

METHOD

  1. In a food processor, place your nuts and process them until they are roughly chopped, add basil, lemon juice, garlic, superfood greens & garlic. Pulse a few times until blended well. Slowly add the 1/4 cup of olive oil while food processor is running. 
  2. Blend until creamy and pesto comes together, add a pinch of salt and pulse a few times.
