We've been having a great turnout for our outdoor Yoga classes in Burnaby.  The more the merrier, so please drop by if you're in the area.  Tuesdays from 6:30pm to 7:30pm, they run until August 11 near BCIT in a park on Wayburne Avenue.  Email me for more details.  In inclement weather the classes will be moved inside.

When people struggle with Chaturanga it’s often because they aren’t using their legs, with the result that all of the work falls to the shoulders.

-strengthens wrists, arms, shoulders, neck and chest
-improves circulation to upper body
-strengthens back muscles and abdominal muscles
-tones abdominal organs

1. Start in a plank or push up position with toes curled under, arms straight and hands under shoulders, fingers pointing forward.

2. While exhaling, bend your elbows and lower yourself so the truck is a few inches off the floor, parallel with the group.  Keep your tummy tight, shoulders down, and elbows in along side body.  Push back through the soles of your feet to help center your weight/balance more toward the navel area allowing you to shift the weight from your arms more into your legs. Hold and breathe.

3. Lower yourself to the floor and relax.

For a more advanced variation, begin from a prone position and push yourself up into Chaturanga.

Signing with Chimps

OK.  I know this is an odd story to add to the "Baby" section, but because I found incredibly interesting and heartfelt, and it had to do with sign language, I really wanted to share it.  Click this link to read the story.


Blueberry Chia Jam (makes 1 1/4 cup)
Original Recipe


Thick and glossy, thanks to the addition of chia seeds, this is the kind of jam you’ll want to eat with everything. It will keep for a week in the refrigerator.

What You'll Need:
2½ cups fresh blueberries
1 Tbs. pure maple syrup, plus more to taste
1 vanilla bean, seeds scraped, pod reserved
4 tsp. chia seeds


1. Combine blueberries, maple syrup, and vanilla bean seeds and pod in small saucepan, and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer 6 to 8 minutes, or until berries burst and mixture is juicy. Remove from heat.

2. Stir chia seeds into blueberry mixture (be sure they are well distributed and not clumping together). Pour mixture into wide-mouth jar or bowl.

3. Stir berry-chia mixture once it has stopped steaming, then refrigerate 2 hours, or until chilled. Sweeten with more maple syrup, if desired, and remove vanilla bean.

  • Calories: 17
  • Protein: <1 g
  • Total Fat: <1 g
  • Saturated Fat: <1 g
  • Carbohydrates: 4 g
  • Cholesterol: 0 mg
  • Sodium: <1 mg
  • Fiber: <1 g
  • Sugar: 3 g
