Thank you to everyone who came by our booth at the Vancouver Wellness Show last month!  We had an awesome time and met some fabulous people.  We hope you had fun too.

Classes start to wind down this month, but be sure to register early for our Spring session.  You'll find some new classes like Pilates, Baby & Me Yoga and Yoga Tots being offered at Champlain HeightsRestorative Yoga at Hastings Community Center.  Kerrisdale Community Center has Prenatal Yoga and a Saturday program of Yoga for the Mature Adult.  Check all our classes at www.intoyoga.ca/classes.htm.

Consider registering for classes at Greentree Village before April 5 2012.  When you pre-register for our Spring and Summer classes together, you'll receive $10 off.

Yoga Fundraiser for Arthritis and Autoimmune Diseases


Power of Movement is Canada's largest Yoga fundraiser for Arthritis Research. The Vancouver location will be held down at Creekside Community Center (Athletes Village) on Sunday, March 4th from 11:00am to 12:15pm.

The Power of Yoga

Stars do it.  Sports do it. Judges in the highest courts do it. Let's do it: that yoga thing. A path to enlightenment that winds back 5,000 years in its native India, yoga has suddenly become so hot, so cool, so very this minute. It's the exercise cum meditation for the new millennium, one that doesn't so much pump you up as bliss you out. Yoga now straddles the continent — from Hollywood, where $20 million-a-picture actors queue for a session with their guru du jour, to Washington, where, in the gym of the Supreme Court, Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and 15 others faithfully take their class each Tuesday morning.

Need a few minutes to relax?

Get comfortable in your chair. Loosen any tight, uncomfortable clothing. Let your arms rest loosely at your side. Allow yourself a few moments to relax.

If your thoughts wander, just let them while gently moving your attention back to the relaxation. If you become anxious or uncomfortable, stop the relaxation by clicking on the pause button. Click here for video.


The Benefits of Yoga for Children

There are tremendous benefits that children can gain from yoga programs. Tempah Bolognes
(makes 4 cups)

This classic Italian pasta sauce is made with crumbled tempeh instead of ground meat. Try it over spaghetti, polenta, potatoes, or puréed cauliflower.


  • 1 Tbs. plus 1 1/2 tsp. olive oil, divided

  • 1 medium onion, peeled and finely chopped (1 1/2 cups)

  • 1 large carrot, finely chopped (1/2 cup)

  • 1 cup finely chopped celery

  • 1 Tbs. dried oregano

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced (1 Tbs.)

  • 1 8-oz. pkg. tempeh

  • 1 Tbs. reduced-sodium soy sauce

  • 1 28-oz. can fire-roasted diced tomatoes

  • 1/2 cup dry white wine

  • 2 Tbs. tomato paste

  • 1 tsp. vegan Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/2 cup low-fat evaporated skim milk


1. Heat 1 Tbs. oil in large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion, carrot, celery, oregano, and garlic, and cook 5 to 6 minutes, or until vegetables are browned, stirring often.

2. Meanwhile, heat remaining 1 1/2 tsp. oil in separate skillet over medium heat. Add tempeh, and brown 2 minutes on each side. Add soy sauce and 1/2 cup water. Cook tempeh 5 minutes more, or until liquid has absorbed. Break tempeh into small crumbles with spatula.

3. Stir tempeh, tomatoes, wine, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce into onion mixture. Reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer, partially covered, 10 minutes. Stir in evaporated milk, and simmer 5 minutes more. Season with salt and pepper, if desired.

Nutritional Information Per 2/3-cup serving: Calories: 186, Protein: 11g, Total fat: 8g, Saturated fat: 1g, Carbs: 20g, Cholesterol: mg, Sodium: 552mg, Fiber: 3g, Sugars: 10g
