This edition is coming a little early because I wanted to make sure you all remember to visit us at the 16th Annual Wellness Show Feb 1, 2, and 3 at Canada Place.  See below for more details.

 

Valentines Day comes but once a year.  And we have something very special for you this year.  Read about our delicious Chocolates that actually help you lose weight and increase your energy!

 

Many of you answered favorably to my request about doing a workshop on chanting Sanskrit.  We'll be offering it Feb 16, 2008.  More information on that below.

1)    Family Yoga Classes

Our family classes begin Monday February 11 from 6:00pm - 7:00pm.  We need a couple more people to have this class run.  So grab your family and friends and give me a call at 604-421-9872 to register.  Kids between the ages of 5-12 will love to take these classes with you.

The Family classes will be held at Greentree Village, 4295 Garden Grove, Burnaby, near BCIT.  You'll find more information on our website at www.intoyoga.ca/classes.htm

Come explore the dimensions of yoga through breath, body movement and imagination with the ones you love. This active yet focused class will help each member of the family become more centered and calm, while increasing flexibility. Postures are chosen that both adult and child can share and explore together.  These classes are best suited for children ages five and up.  Call 604-421-9872 NOW to REGISTER. 


2)    Sanskrit Chanting Workshop

Saturday February 16, 2008
2:00pm - 4:00pm
Greentree Village

I had a great response to the email I sent our about this workshop.  Thank you to all who replied.  It is my pleasure to invite Shashank Hedao to facilitate a two hour workshop in the ancient text of Sanskrit.

Moving to Canada and making a home in Vancouver a little over three years ago, Shashank was brought up in a traditional Indian family. Blessed with encounters with yogis, mystics and Sanskrit literature he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Sanskrit literature and a Post Graduate degree in mass communication.

This workshop will encompass an introduction to Sanskrit including the sounds and pronunciation of the alphabet along with vowels and consonants. Chanting mantras and their meanings will be introduced and a short meditation will follow.

I love to listen to the sound of Sanskrit. The influx of rhythm and melody are beautiful to the ear. Feel the energy shift and expand in the room as we sing some of the most ancient texts.
Get to know some chants that you can practice on your own and leave the workshop feeling relaxed and invigorated.

3)    New February Classes

We will have many classes beginning their second set of the Winter session this month.  Please visit our website at www.intoyoga.ca/classes.htm to find the start date of the class you want.  Make sure you register early to avoid disappointment.


4)    16th Annual Wellness Show

Visit us February 1 to February 3 at the 16th Annual Wellness Show coming to Canada Place.  It's the largest and most comprehensive health and wellness show around, and we're proud to be a part of it.  Into Yoga has participated in previous years, and this year we're exhibiting the Nutritional Cleansing products.  Come and visit us with your friends and family at Booth #700

5)    Administration Assistant Wanted

I am looking for some help in this work from home position.  Applicant must be comfortable with working on their own and doing telephone promotions. A clear voice and good command of the English language is essential.  Required commitment is two hours a day Tue, Wed and Thur every week, anytime between the hours of 8:00am and 3:00pm.  Commission paid is $25 for each paid booking.  Potential of $200+ a day.  Some background in Sales, Yoga and Pilates is an asset.  Please contact me at 604.421.9872 or email me at info@intoyoga.ca.

7)    Invite Us to Work

Invite us to teach Yoga or Pilates at your work place and get your classes for free.

As our everyday life, both personal and professional, become more hectic and stressful we need an avenue to allow ourselves to let go and rejuvenate. Our Wellness Programs offer just that. Breathing to release stress, postures to remove tension, and relaxation to restore vitality.

Participants will be taught how to focus and concentrate and become more aware of themselves. Information is provided to help de-stress and re-energize the body and mind. These things help increase the participantís overall performance in any endeavor and allows them to stay on task.

In less than an hour one can prepare themselves for the rest of the day. Participants will leave each class relaxed with a renewed feeling of energy. Yoga and/or Pilates is the perfect modality to benefit any companyís health and wellness plans.

Imagine relieving your stress and fatigue as you experience the journey to inner peace without ever having to leave the building. Acquaint yourself with the ultimate of rejuvenation and relaxation as you learn to harmonize your body, mind, breath and spirit. 8)    Try this Pose

WALKING EXERCISES

 

 

I get asked for these a lot in classes.  Put a little meditation in your step and you've got a great Yoga exercise.  Going through the movements described will help open and strengthen your hips.  Balance and circulation throughout the entire body is improved.  You'll also notice how truly connected your body is.  Pay particular attention to your hands, that's right, I said your hands, as you walk in these variations.

Let your arms hang at your sides and move freely as you practice these walking variations.  Walk around the room a few times in each variation.  Keep your posture upright and your chin level with the ground.  And don't forget to monitor your hands.  Keep them relaxed!

1) raise up onto toes and begin taking little steps

2) raise up onto heels and begin taking little steps

3) turn feet and walk on outside of feet

4) letting knees knock together, turn feet and walk on inside of feet

5) turn right leg, pointing toes to right. Turn left leg, pointing toes to left, and place left foot in front of right foot. Take small steps

6) walk with toes pointing in

7) curl toes as much as possible and walk. Tighten knees

8) roll feet from heel to toe. Try to breathe harmoniously with exercise

9) keeping most of body's weight on the front of the foot, walk on the entire sole of the foot


- NOTE - When standing correctly a perpendicular line can be drawn from behind the ear to slightly in front of the outside anklebone.

10)    Recipe

I inadvertently deleted last month's recipe from the January newsletter when I was preparing the February issue.  If you happen to have kept the January 2008 recipe, I would be delighted if you could email it to me.

EXTRA QUICK CHILI (serves 4-6)

1 bag frozen onions and peppers
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 28-oz. can plum tomatoes, cut in pieces
1 t. bouillon granules
1 T. chili powder
2 t. cumin
pinch cayenne, or to taste
2 cans kidney beans or black beans
Cooked whole grains (optional)

Combine all ingredients in a large pot, bring to a boil and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Serve over the whole grain of your choice, if desired.
