3)    Fall Schedule

Please note that while the City workers in Vancouver are on strike, registration for all Vancouver Community Centers will be delayed.  However, all Burnaby and New Westminster locations will be running and registration has started.  You can find all our classes at For those of you who would like to register for classes at Greentree Village in Burnaby, I have attached a registration form for you.  Cheques only are accepted for these classes. 4)    Family Yoga Classes

Offered at Greentree Village beginning in October come explore the dimensions of yoga through breath, body movement and imagination with the ones you love. This active yet focused class will help each member of the family become more centered and calm, while increasing flexibility. 7)    Try this Pose



Excellent for toning the pelvic floor, this posture is encouraged if you are pregnant or have weak pelvic muscles.  It can help relieve pain from sciatica and menstrual discomfort as well as being beneficial for kidney, bladder and urinary problems.  It also helps to keep the prostate gland healthy in men.

1. Sit with your legs extended, toes and heels together.
2. Inhaling, bend you knees bringing the soles of the feet together. Clasp your hands around your toes.
3. Pull your heels in as close to the groin as possible.
4. Exhaling, pull up on the toes with hands while keeping the outer edge of the feet firmly on the floor.
5. Push your knees down toward the floor. Keep your chest lifted and back straight.  Hold posture and breathe.
6. Release.

Please note: Do this posture at your own risk.

11)    Recipe

Honey Bourbon BBQ Chicken Breasts (4 serving)

2 Tbsp Unsalted Organic Butter
1 cup onion, minced
1 clove garlic, minced
2 cups Organic Ketchup
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 cup molasses
1/2 cup honey
1 Tbsp Organic Dijon Mustard
1 Tbsp chile powder
1 Tbsp black pepper
2 Tbsp bourbon (optional)
6 natural chicken breast halves, bone in, skin on 1 tbsp coarse kosher salt
1/2 Tbsp black pepper

Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
2. Add onion and garlic and sauté until soft, about 4 minutes.
3. Add the next 7 ingredients. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook slowly for 20 minutes; until the sauce thickens.
4. Stir in bourbon.
5. Prepare a medium-hot fire in the grill.
6. Mix salt and pepper together. Sprinkle over chicken breasts and under the skin.
7. Grill chicken about 10 minutes per side or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F.
8. Reserve 1 cup of barbecue sauce. Brush chicken lightly with remaining sauce and cook for 2 minutes longer.
9. Place chicken on a platter and cover loosely with foil until ready to serve.

12)    Chemicals Health and Pregnancy Study - Volunteers Needed

The UBC Chemicals, Health and Pregnancy (CHirP) study is now recruiting 150 pregnant women from the Greater Vancouver area. The CHirP study is looking at the effect of certain environmental chemicals (flame retardants and stain repellents) on thyroid hormone levels during pregnancy. Participants must be in the first 15 weeks of pregnancy and be planning to deliver at BC Womens’ St Paul ’s or at home. I don't know if this email is legitimate or not, but regardless, it sure made my day!  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.  And may you never have a jellyfish bad day!

    Subject: divers dilemma

If you don't laugh out loud after you read this you are in a coma!

This is even funnier when you realize it's real! Next time you have a bad day at work think of this guy.

Rob is a commercial saturation diver for Global Divers in Louisiana. He performs underwater repairs on offshore drilling rigs.
Below is an E-mail he sent to his sister. She then sent it to radio station 103.2 FM in Ft. Wayne , Indiana , who was sponsoring a worst job experience contest. Needless to say, she won.

Hi Sue,

Just another note from your bottom-dwelling brother. Last week I had a bad day at the office. I know you've been feeling down lately at work, so I thought I would share my dilemma with you to make you realize it's not so bad after all.

Before I can tell you what happened to me, I first must bore you with a few technicalities of my job.  As you know, my office lies at the bottom of the sea. I wear a suit to the office. It's a wet suit. This time of year the water is quite cool. So what we do to keep warm is this: We have a diesel powered industrial water heater. This $20,000 piece of equipment sucks the water out of the sea. It heats it to a delightful temperature. It then pumps it down to the diver through a garden hose, which is taped to the air hose. Now this sounds like a darn good plan, and I've used it several times with no complaints.

What I do, when I get to the bottom and start working, is take the hose and stuff it down the back of my wet suit. This floods my whole suit with warm water. It's like working in a Jacuzzi.

Everything was going well until all of a sudden, my butt started to itch. So, of course, I scratched it. This only made things worse. Within a few seconds my butt started to burn. I pulled the hose out from my back, but the damage was done. In agony I realized what had happened. The hot water machine had sucked up a jellyfish and pumped it into my suit. Now, since I don't have any hair on my back, the jelly fish couldn't stick to it.  However, the crack of my butt was not as fortunate.  When I scratched what I thought was an itch, I was actually grinding the jellyfish into the crack of my butt.

I informed the dive supervisor of my dilemma over the communicator. His instructions were unclear due to the fact that he, along with five other divers, were all laughing hysterically.  Needless to say I aborted the dive. I was instructed to make three agonizing in-water decompression stops totaling thirty-five minutes before I could reach the surface to begin my chamber dry decompression. When I arrived at the surface, I was wearing nothing but my brass helmet.

As I climbed out of the water, the medic, with tears of laughter running down his face, handed me a tube of cream and told me to rub it on my butt as soon as I got in the chamber. The cream put the fire out, but I couldn't poop for two days because my butt was swollen shut.

So, next time you' re having a bad day at work, think about how much worse it would be if you had a jellyfish shoved up your butt.

Now repeat to yourself, "I love my job, I love my job, I love my job."

Now whenever you have a bad day, ask yourself, is this a jellyfish bad day?

May you NEVER have a jellyfish bad day!!!!!
