1)    Registration for Spring Classes

Registration for Spring will be available soon.  We are in the process of confirming dates for what will be offered.  Spring classes will begin in April 2007.  Watch your email box for an update letting you know when registration starts.


2)    Watch for Province Newspaper March 5 2007

Watch for Into Yoga (and me) to be featured in the Mind Your Own Business section of the Vancouver Province Newspaper on Monday March 5 2007.  Pass it on.......


3)    Try this Pose

WARRIOR 1 (Virabhadrasana)

 

Postures that help tone the abdominal organs will help also aid digestion and menstrual orders.  This Warrior Pose also helps to limber and strengthen the entire body.  Tension is released in the neck, shoulders and back.  Stamina, endurance, balance and concentration are all improved.

1.    Stand erect with your feet as far apart as comfortable and parallel with each other, hands on hips.
2.    Inhaling drop your tailbone down toward the floor and let the crown of your head float upward.
3.    Exhaling, turn your left toes inward slightly and your right foot 90 degrees to the right, along with your hips.
4.    Bend your right knee directly over top of your heel forming a right angle with the shin and thigh.
5.    With your left leg straight and left foot firmly grounded, inhale reaching your arms up over your head.
6.    With arms straight at either side of your head, palms facing each other, gaze straight ahead.
7.    Hold this posture and breathe.
8.    Inhale. Exhaling, release the pose.
9.    Repeat bending the opposite knee.

This posture creates a mild backbend.  So once completed, either let the torso hang forward with your knees bent, legs together, or lay down on your back and bring your knees to your chest to release the grip of the back muscles.

Please note: You do this posture at your own risk.

8)    Recipe

Spicy Chickpea Soup (6 - 8 servings)
published in Good Food by Dr. Gabe Mirkin and Diana Mirkin

6 cups bouillon
1 onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 carrot, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
2 red potatoes, cut in 1/2 cubes
1 teaspoon oregano
1-3 jalapeno peppers, seeded and minced, to taste
1 cup canned tomatoes, undrained, broken up
1 16-ounce can chickpeas, undrained
1 cup cooked kamut or other whole grain of your choice
1/4 cup chopped Italian parsley or cilantro
Freshly ground black pepper to taste


Combine all ingredients except the chickpeas, kamut and parsley in a large pot. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, 30-40 minutes or until the potatoes and carrot are tender. Whirl a hand blender in the soup for a few seconds to thicken it slightly, but leave lots of chunks. Stir in the chickpeas, kamut and parsley and cook about 10 minutes.


9)    Lunch & Learn at Work About Nutritional Cleansing

Q:    Will these products give me diarrhea?
A:    No.  They will clean the impurities from your colon but it is unlikely you will find a difference in your frequency or consistency in your bowel movements. 

Q:    What are the ingredients?
A:    You can find the whole list of products and ingredients at www.cleanseyourbody.isagenix.com.  Click on the CLEANSE or NUTRITION links.  Then click on the products you are interested in.  At the bottom of each page is a link for all the ingredients.

Q:    What if I'm on medications?
A:    It's suggested that you let your healthcare provider know that you are doing a cleanse and ask that they monitor you.

Q:    What's the cost?
A:    It depends on what you purchase.  You can pay retail prices or purchase a membership for as little as $36 which allows you to purchase at wholesale prices.  All prices are in US dollars.

10)    What is All the Fuss About Nutritional Cleansing

11)    Bone Density Clinic

If you haven't signed up for our Bone Density Clinic to be offered in North Burnaby at our Revs Health Club location sometime during the Spring of 2007 yet, make sure you do so quickly.  The date is still to be determined but it will be held on either a Saturday or Sunday.  Watch your email box for an update.

Using ultrasound on the radius of the forearm, the procedure is quick (about 10 minutes), painless (no needles) and very accurate. The results are immediate, easily understood, and you can take them directly to your doctor.  Because this test is by ultrasound, it is even safe during pregnancy.  The cost will be under $40 (gst extra).
