I hope you've had some time to be out in the beautiful sunshine!  I want to thank all of you who take the time to email me with your comments after you read the newsletter.  I appreciate the feedback.  Feel free to tell me things you'd like to see in upcoming newsletters.

1)    New Website Completed

2)    Bone Density Clinic

Don't forget to reserve your time for the Bone Density Clinic being held at Revs Health Club, 5502 Lougheed Hwy, Burnaby on Saturday July 14 between 9:00am and 1:00pm.  Times are booking up fast.  Call Sheri at 604-421-9872 or email me at to book your time.  A $10 deposit is required.  The balance is to be paid at the clinic. You will be given the address to mail your cheque to once you reserve your spot.  DO NOT contact Revs directly or send them the cheque.

Using ultrasound on the radius of the forearm, the procedure is quick, painless (no needles) and very accurate. The results are immediate, easily understood, and you can take them directly to your doctor.  Because this test is by ultrasound, it is even safe during pregnancy.  The cost is $39.95 plus gst and takes only 10 minutes.

3)    Revs Introduces Saturday Yoga Classes

Mark June 2 on your calendar and come and visit us at Revs Health Club, 5502 Lougheed Hwy in Burnaby for our first Yoga classes offered on Saturdays.  Class time is 10:30am - 11:45am.  This class will be included as part of all Yoga FlexPass cards currently in use and in the future.  So if you already have a FlexPass, you're entitled to come to this class already.  If you're just beginning your FlexPass, you too, will have the chance to come to any of our three classes per week.  Saturdays from 10:30am to 11:45am; Sundays 9:15am to 10:30am; Wednesdays 7:00pm to 8:15pm.  See you there!

4  Summer Schedule

Our summer schedule is ready.  However, depending on where you want to take classes, the location may or many not be prepared for registration.  Remember to call each location to register for classes. For a full list of classes, days, times, etc. please go to our website at

7)    Yoga That Fits

Yoga is the perfect exercise to keep larger bodies fit and flexible.  These classes are tailored to fit just that purpose, however they are open to anyone, regardless of age, size or ability. Yoga that Fits classes are taught by certified, mature Hatha Yoga instructors who know first hand the challenges of living large, who will challenge you to make the most of your bodacious body and support you in discovering the many physical and mental benefits of yoga.  We currently offer Yoga That Fits classes at the following community centers:  Britannia, Greentree Village, Kerrisdale, Mt. 8)    Try this Pose

EAGLE (Garudasana)


Seems, I must need balance in my life right now.  I tend to be focusing on balance postures lately.  The body craves what the body needs, it's just that we don't often listen.

Helping to remove leg cramps and strengthen the ankles, knees, hips and everywhere in between, this pose will also help develop co-ordination and flexibility in the leg and shoulder joints.

1. Stand with your feet slightly parted and your arms extended to the sides parallel with the floor.
2. Find a focal point ahead of you.
3. Bring your left arm in front of your chest, parallel with the floor.   Bring your right arm under your left arm.
4. Bend your elbows and wrap your arms around each other, bringing the palms together.
5. Bend your left knee and bring the right thigh over top of the left thigh as close to your groin as possible.
6. With your right calf pressed against the side of the left knee, see if you can curl the toes around the left ankle.
7. Balance, breathing normally.
8. Release.
9. Repeat the opposite way.

New Beginnings


12)    Recipe

Lentil-Veggie Loaf (6 - 8 serving)
published in

1 cup lentils
6 cups bouillon
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped or shredded carrot
2 cups chopped mushrooms
1/2 cup bouillon
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon sage
1 teaspoon oregano
pinch cayenne, to taste
1 cup quick-cooking oatmeal



Put the lentils and the 6 cups of bouillon in a pot; bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer 20-30 minutes, or until the lentils are tender. Drain, reserving about 1 cup of the cooking liquid.  

Meanwhile, in another pot, cook the onion, carrot and mushrooms in 1/2 cup of bouillon until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the tomato paste, soy sauce, sage, oregano and cayenne.  

Combine the lentils and the vegetable mixture. Stir in the oatmeal. You should have a stiff mixture; add a little of the reserved bouillon if necessary.

Spoon into a 9 x 5” microwaveable loaf pan and microwave on high for 10 minutes (or bake at 400º for 20 minutes.) Let cool for 5-10 minutes, then slice and serve.

VARIATION: Shape the mixture into patties and grill on a hot nonstick pan.
