Oh my goodness!  Another year almost done.  Where did I put the last one?

 

Everyone at Into Yoga wishes you a safe, happy and enjoyable season holiday!

 

December slows down somewhat for classes.  A few will continue to run closer to the holidays, but many will be over very quickly.  Registration for January 2008 classes has already begun or will do so shortly, so be sure to call the location where you want to take classes and register now, so you're not disappointed.

 

We will be offering classes in Coquitlam and a new location in Vancouver (Hastings Community Center).  Please check all our class listings at www.intoyoga.ca/classes.htm.

1)    Gift Certificates Available

Not sure what to get for that special someone on your list this season?  How about a gift certificate for Yoga classes.  Certificates are available for our Burnaby classes only.  Please enquire at info@intoyoga.ca.


2)    Family Yoga Classes

Wow!  I couldn't believe the response for the Family Yoga classes we offered this Fall.  We'll be offering it again starting in February.  Be sure to register early to secure your spot. The classes are offered at Greentree Village, 4295 Garden Grove, Burnaby, near BCIT, on Monday evenings 6:00pm - 7:00pm.  The cost is $38 per person.  You will need to bring your own yoga mats, or you can purchase them through us on your registration form.  Students receive about a 50% discount on high quality mats complete with a shoulder strap for carrying.

Come explore the dimensions of yoga through breath, body movement and imagination with the ones you love. This active yet focused class will help each member of the family become more centered and calm, while increasing flexibility. 3)    New Vancouver Yoga Class

Starting in January 2008 we will have a combined Beginner - Intermediate Yoga class at Hastings Community Center, across from the PNE grounds.  Join us on Thursday nights from 7:00pm - 8:00pm beginning January 24.  This class will be open to new and experienced yoga students.  Learn the basics or push to your edge, you'll find something new and exciting in these classes.


4)    Invite Us to Work

The New Year brings new resolutions.  One of them is usually better physical fitness.  So with that in mind, we will continue to offer you a gratuity of $50 for every referral from you that books us for on-site Company classes in the work place.  We can offer Yoga and Pilates.  A minimum of 10 classes must be pre-booked.  Keep talking with your friends, family, relatives and co-workers!  Ask them if it's okay to pass their contact information on to me, and I'll do the rest.

6)    16th Annual Wellness Show

Here's an early head's up.  We want you to visit us at the 16th Annual Wellness Show coming in February 2008.  Mark February 1 to February 3 on your calendar.  Visit their website at www.TheWellnessShow.com, then visit Booth #700 at the Vancouver Trade and Convention Center at Canada Place in February.  We will be promoting the nutritional cleansing products.

8)    Try this Pose

KNEE PRESS (Pavanmuktasana/Vatayanasana)

 

With the festive season upon us, I thought a good gas relieving posture should be on the menu.  So enjoy your food knowing that you have the great Wind Relieving Posture to top off the meal.  Really, that's what this posture is best known for!

You'll also find this posture is great for reducing lower backache and easing tension in the neck and shoulders.  Improved digestion helps eliminate constipation. 

1. Lay on your back with your legs straight, arms at your sides, palms down. Inhale.
2. Exhaling, tighten your abdominal muscles and push your lower back into the floor. Inhale.
3. Exhaling, raise your right knee into your chest. Clasp your hands around your knee, pulling it toward your chest. 4. Pressing your sacrum into the floor, hold posture and breathe.  Relax your shoulders and neck.
5. Inhale. Exhaling, return your leg to the floor.
6. Repeat on the left side.

If you're uncomfortable with the other leg extended, bend it and put your foot on the floor.

Please note: Do this posture at your own risk.
